MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF AUGUST 10, 2023

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners celebrating the life of Yvette Christine Shields

Body

 

WHEREAS, born on March 30, 1966, Yvette Christine Shields had a passion for journalism.  After graduating from Columbia College with a degree in journalism, she was excited to be hired as a reporter for the City News Bureau; and

 

WHEREAS, through the years, Ms. Shields also worked as a freelance writer for the Chicago Tribune; worked as an assistant for Harvard University’s School of Public Health; and was employed by the Bond Buyer; and 

 

WHEREAS, initially trained to cover Chicago’s City Hall, Ms. Shields later transitioned to the public finance arena, where she obtained knowledge of political and financial minutiae that shaped the financial decisions of Chicago; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Shields was well respected for her integrity.  Known to ask tough questions, she did so with fairness and respect.  Ms. Shields loved to indulge in nature, literature, and music.  She was an avid traveler that relished in trying new things; and

 

WHEREAS, a lifelong resident of the Chicago area, Ms. Shields will be remembered for her larger-than-life personality and her heartfelt dedication to all those she loved.  She will also be remembered fondly for her hat collection; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. Shields’ memory will be honored by her children Wesley Alwin and Nora Shields, her mother Inez Keller, her siblings, and a plethora of other loving relatives, friends, and members of the journalism community; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby extend our condolences to the family of Yvette Christine Shields; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the family of Yvette Christine Shields.
