Dear Sir:
On March 3, 2012, the Board of Commissioners authorized the Director of Procurement and Materials Management to advertise for bids to furnish and deliver pipe covering and insulation to various locations for a one-year period.
In response to a public advertisement of March 14, 2012, a bid opening was held on April 3, 2012. The bids received for this contract are:
FORT DEARBORN ENTERPRISES *$65,723.67
PROGRESSIVE INDUSTRIES, INC. *211,587.29

Seven hundred twenty-one (721) companies were notified of this contract being advertised and nineteen (19) companies requested specifications.
The low bid submitted by Fort Dearborn Enterprises, is more than 68.5 percent higher than the estimate, and the bid submitted by Progressive Industries, Inc. is more than 442.5 percent higher than the estimate. Therefore, the bids are too high to award and are being rejected in the public's best interest. The Director of Procurement and Materials Management has notified Fort Dearborn Enterprises, and Progressive Industries, Inc. of this action.
This contract will be re-advertised at a future date.
