MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF DECEMBER 5, 2024

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners celebrating the life of Reverend Dr. Wilson Daniels

WHEREAS, Pastor-Emeritus Revered Dr. Wilson Daniels was known as the “Legend of Lawndale” and served his community through the United Baptist Church for 44 years; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Daniels believed in serving God through serving humanity, and through programs he established, was able to improve the lives of thousands of community members, such as through a weekly clothing giveaway, a substance abuse program, a prison ministry, and a weekly food pantry, which serves more than 10,000 people annually; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Daniels further worked with the City of Chicago to acquire much of the land surrounding the church and was instrumental in the building of more than 75 homes for low income and first-time home buyers in the Lawndale community; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Daniels continues to serve his community through the Wilson Daniels Scholarship Fund, which helps enable members of the United Baptist Church to further their education; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Daniels further served the Baptist community at large by serving as the Treasurer of the Baptist State Convention of Illinois, and by mentoring many men throughout their journeys to become pastors; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Daniels faithfully served Christ throughout his 81 years, and has made an indelible mark upon his community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby extend our condolences to the family of Reverend Dr. Wilson Daniels; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the family of Pastor Wilson Daniels.
