MOTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF MAY 21, 2020

title

MOTION for report on feasibility of partnering with suburban school districts on green infrastructure (As Revised)

body

I move that District staff provide a report to the Board of Commissioners by May 31, 2021, that:

1.                     Identifies and assesses potential suburban school districts' interest in partnering with the District on green infrastructure projects similar to the Space to Grow program;

2.                     Identifies a mechanism for coordination with suburban school districts, including a potential coordinating entity, and explains how it could be funded;

3.                     Identifies optimal suburban locations for green infrastructure projects so as to maximize the community benefit of each project and the program as a whole;

4.                     Identifies potential pilot projects based on potential partners that could take place in different, representative areas of Cook County to show geographic diversity;

5.                     Identifies potential costs and benefits, including consistent maintenance, especially with support for disproportionately impacted communities on green infrastructure projects with suburban schools

6.                     Recommends steps for the District to overcome such barriers and such other needs as warranted for a green infrastructure program with suburban school districts.
