TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF JUNE 19, 2008

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE

Mr. Richard Lanyon, General Superintendent

Title

Authority to add Project 06-212-3M, Calumet TARP Pumping Station Pumps E1/W1 Improvements, CWRP to the Engineering Department Capital Improvement Program and the Capital Improvements Bond Fund, estimated cost of the project is $19,700,000.00

Body

Dear Sir:

Authority is requested to add Project 06-212-3M, Calumet TARP Pumping Station Pumps E1/W1 Improvements, CWRP to the Engineering Department Capital Improvements Program and the Capital Improvements Bond Fund at the request of the Maintenance and Operations Department.

The purpose of the project is to replace two existing 28.8 mgd pumps with two new 72 mgd pumps.  The new pumps will be controlled by new variable frequency drives (VFD) which will be housed at grade level in a separate, stand alone structure.  The two new VFD controlled pumps will increase the firm capacity of the pump station and will allow greater flexibility in station operation.  Housing the VFDs at grade level improves reliability by eliminating the possibility of the units being submerged in case of a flood in the pump room.

The estimated cost of the project is $19,700,000.00.

Requested, Joseph P. Sobanski, Chief Engineer, JPS:TEK:JAW:LMK

Respectfully submitted, Gloria Alitto Majewski, Chairman Committee on Finance

ORDERED passed by affirmative roll call vote of a majority of the Commissioners present this June 19, 2008.  Approved, President Terrence J. O’Brien
