MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF MAY 1, 2008

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners offering sympathy and condolences to the family of Lindsey Davis, Sr. (As Revised)

Body

 

WHEREAS, Lindsey Davis, Sr. was called to eternal rest on April 11, 2008; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was born on  November 22, 1923 to Jim Davis of Monroe, Louisiana and Melrose Askew of Starkville, Mississippi; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was raised in Share Mount, now known as Green Woods, Mississippi with his siblings Johnny, Jimmy, Henry, Vera, Rosie, John and Leroy Davis; and

 

WHEREAS, at the age of 19, Mr. Davis enlisted in the United States Army where he served as a soldier and was honorably discharged; and

 

WHEREAS, he was joined in matrimony to his childhood friend, Estella Harris and together they settled in Chicago, Illinois and were blessed with seven children: Les, John, Lindsey, Jr., Janette, Linnette, Melvin and Linda; and

 

WHEREAS, both Mr. Davis and his wife, with unstoppable determination, worked hard, often at two jobs for six days a week, to provide for their family; and

 

WHEREAS, even as a retiree, Mr. Davis was active, enjoying days of fishing and hunting accompanied by hours of riveting storytelling; and

 

WHEREAS, Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his soul mate and love of his life, Estella, his children Les and Janette, and his siblings Johnny, Jimmy, Henry and Leroy; and

 

WHEREAS, countless people, including his children John, Lindsey, Jr., Linnette, Melvin and Linda; his daughter in law Adoracion; his sisters and brother, Vera Moore, Rosie Davis, and John Davis; his brother and sister in law, Frank Davis and Betty Davis, his thirteen beloved grandchildren; his eight cherished great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends mourn the passing of this hard working and honorable man who lived a full and honest life; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby extend our sympathy and condolences to the family of Lindsey Davis, Sr.; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the family of Lindsey Davis, Sr.
