Title

Body

Dear Sir:

NeighborSpace occupies 1.8± acres of District real estate located on North Shore Channel Parcel 10.03 for riverbank management and restoration, including native planting, debris removal, and the maintenance of a wood chipped path. Since 1998, NeighborSpace has occupied this site under a series of permits, with the current permit expiring August 13, 2023. NeighborSpace has requested to extend the permit for a five (5) year term for the same purpose. NeighborSpace is funded and supported by the City of Chicago, the Chicago Park District, and the Forest Preserve District of Cook County.

The District’s technical departments have reviewed this request and have no objections thereto.  Previous permits have authorized a waiver of the environmental insurance and a nominal fee. The same terms are requested for this permit extension.

It is requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize and approve the issuance of a 5-year permit extension to NeighborSpace for the continued use of 1.8± acres of District real estate located along the east bank of the North Branch of the Chicago River between Montrose Avenue and 212 feet south of Berteau Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, North Shore Channel Parcel 10.03, for riverbank management and restoration. Consideration shall be a nominal fee of $10.00.

It is also requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize and direct the Chairman of the Committee on Finance and the Clerk to execute the permit extension agreement after it is approved by the General Counsel as to form and legality.

Requested, Susan T. Morakalis, General Counsel, STM:MTC:NOC:vp

Recommended, Brian A. Perkovich, Executive Director
