Body

Dear Sir:

Edward Chesser is an Electrical Mechanic at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. On October 23, 2015, he reported that he injured his lower back while lifting a motor valve actuator. He sought treatment at the Industrial Clinic on October 27, 2015, and was treated conservatively and placed on Light Duty.

Mr. Chesser reported that on May 18, 2017, he injured his lower back while unloading a vertical lift from a truck. He treated at the Industrial Clinic on May 19, 2017. He was diagnosed with a lower back strain and placed on Light Duty. On June 21, 2017, he was taken off work. He returned to work on August 16, 2017.

On January 27, 2021, Mr. Chesser reported that he slipped on ice, fell onto his buttocks and struck his head on the pavement. He was transported to McNeal Hospital by ambulance. He was diagnosed with a fractured rib and a concussion. Mr. Chesser was off work starting on February 18, 2021, and returned to work on March 8, 2021.

Mr. Chesser was paid 8.0 weeks of lost time benefits for the May 18, 2017, injury, totaling $9,822.89. The employee was paid 2.4 weeks of lost time benefits for the January 27, 2021, injury totaling $3,185.62.

Mr. Chesser filed Applications of Adjustment of Claim with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) through his counsel. These cases can now be settled for a total of $20,302.15, representing approximately 2.0% loss of use of a person as a whole for the lower back and 2.88% of a person as a whole for the rib fracture and concussion. This settlement will close out any future lost time benefits and medical benefits associated with these injuries.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Thaddeus J. Kosowski, Director of Human Resources, TJK:BLW:DMG
