Item 1: A credit in the amount of $3,692.12 is provided to not proceed with contract work. The engineer has determined that the contract-specified replacement of the three 10 horsepower gravity belt thickener feed pump motors in the Digester Complex will no longer be included in the contract scope. Due to the difficulty in finding suitable motor replacements that will meet the contract requirements as well as compatibility with the existing gravity belt thickener feed pumps, this work will be handled in a future contract. The contractor has accepted the District’s counteroffer as stated via correspondence CO-46 for an extra in the amount of $0.00 and a credit in the amount of $3,692.12, for a net credit in the amount of $3,692.12. The engineer reviewed the proposal, found it to be reasonable, and stated via correspondence CO46, that the Engineering Department would recommend its approval.
Item 2: An extra in an amount of $29,769.30 is requested for the tie-in of the Central Boiler Facility natural gas boilers to the existing hot water piping on a temporary basis for the upcoming heating season. The temporary connections will allow the plant to utilize the new boilers for the heating season while the remaining contract work is completed. To expedite the work and get the new boilers on-line, the temporary work to connect piping is to be tracked on a time and material basis for an extra in the amount of $29,769.30 and a credit in the amount of $0.00, for a net extra not to exceed $29,769.30 as stated in correspondence CO-50. The engineer reviewed the proposal, found it to be reasonable, and stated via correspondence CO50, that the Engineering Department would recommend its approval.
The above two change orders are in compliance with the Illinois Criminal Code since the changes are due to circumstances not reasonably foreseeable at the time the contract was signed and is in the best interest of the District.
It is hereby recommended that the Board of Commissioners authorize the Director of Procurement and Materials Management to execute a change order to increase Contract 19-542-3MR in an amount of $26,077.18 (0.18% of the current contract value), from an amount of $14,527,630.07, to an amount not to exceed $14,553,707.25.
Funds are available in Account 401-50000-645650.
