TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF NOVEMBER 17, 2011
COMMITTEE ON STATE LEGISLATION AND RULES
The Honorable Terrence J. O'Brien, President and Members of the Board of Commissioners
Title
Requesting Policy Direction to implement live or on-demand video streaming of the public meetings of the Board of Commissioners (Deferred from the November 3, 2011 Board Meeting)(As Revised)
Body
Dear Commissioners:
Staff is seeking policy direction from the Board of Commissioners to implement live or on-demand video streaming of the public meetings of the Board of Commissioners.
Transparency around public meetings is more important than ever. Citizens want to learn about policy decisions that affect their lives and see how their tax dollars are being spent. Video streaming encourages citizen participation and creates an unprecedented level of openness without physical presence at each meeting. Live and archived video can be viewable on the District’s web site and over mobile devices.
With Board approval, the Finance and Information and Technology Departments will coordinate a review of the functionality, system requirements, cost and report a recommended solution to the Board of Commissioners.
It is requested that the Board of Commissioners consider the implementation of live video streaming of the public meetings of the Board of Commissioners.
Recommended, David St. Pierre, Executive Director, DStP:JT:mmv
Respectfully Submitted, Debra Shore, Chairman Committee State Legislation and Rules
Disposition of this agenda item will be documented in the official Regular Board Meeting Minutes of the Board of Commissioners for November 17, 2011
