Dear Sir:

 

On January 3, 2008, the Board of Commissioners passed an order directing the Purchasing Agent to advertise for bids for Fence Painting Services in the Stickney Service Area.

 

In response to a public advertisement of February 6, 2008, a bid opening was held on  February 26, 2008.  The bid tabulation for this contract is:

 

OOSTERBAAN & SONS CO.                     $33,000.00

A&A PAINTING                     $37,125.00

NORTHWESTERN CONTRACTORS, INC.                     $38,973.00

PROFESSIONAL TRADES & SERVICES,                      *$39,468.00

                     D/B/A CARDINAL DECORATING, INC.

SEBASTIAN CONTRACTING CORPORATION                     $58,410.00

CYRUS PAINTING AND DECORATING                     *$87,120,000.00

One hundred ninety-two (192) companies were notified of this contract being advertised and eighteen (18) companies requested specifications.

 

The quantities specified in the contract documents were used for the purpose of comparing bids and establishing unit prices.  The total amount to be expended on this contract should usage differ from the estimated quantities, is not to exceed $40,000.00.

 

Oosterbaan & Sons Co., the lowest responsible bidder, is proposing to perform this contract, all in accordance with our specifications.  The estimated cost for this contract was $40,000.00 placing the bid of $33,000.00, approximately 17.5 percent below this estimate.

 

Oosterbaan & Sons Co., has executed the Multi-Project Labor Agreement certificate as required.  The trades anticipated to be utilized on this contract are Painters and Laborers.  The list of construction trades is not intended to confer any rights or jurisdiction upon any union or unions.

 

In view of the foregoing, it is recommended that this contract be awarded to Oosterbaan & Sons Co., in an amount not to exceed $40,000.00, subject to the contractor furnishing a performance bond in form satisfactory to the Law Department and approved by the Purchasing Agent.  Funds are available in Account 101-69000-612420.
