RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF OCTOBER 3, 2024

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners celebrating the life of Chilli Pepper (As Revised)

WHEREAS, since 1994, October has been recognized as LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) History Month. The celebration, which began in Missouri, is now embraced throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, in honor of LGBT History Month, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is celebrating the life of Chilli Pepper, a renowned cast member at the Baton Lounge and one of the first widely recognized Trans advocates. Relocating to Chicago in the early 1970s, Chilli Pepper was one of the first widely recognized advocates of LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and people with other identities) rights; and
WHEREAS, Chilli Pepper was also known as being a fervent HIV/AIDS activist, appearing as a guest on numerous television shows to spread awareness of the disease, tackle misconceptions, and combat negative sentiments; and
WHEREAS, credited as being an ambassador for the LGBTQ+ community since Stonewall, Chilli Pepper was known for being unapologetic about who she was. She demonstrated pride and professionalism in everything that she did; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby extend our condolences to the family of Chilli Pepper; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
