Dear Sir:
Sarah Mahoney is a Structural Ironworker at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. The employee reported that on September 1, 2022, while pulling on a 35-ton shackle, weighing approximately 250 pounds with a coworker, she felt a pop in her left knee. On September 13, 2022, the employee reported that her left knee popped again as she was descending a John Deere Gator. She was seen at the Industrial Clinic on September 14, 2022, and was treated conservatively with medication and physical therapy. An MRI revealed that she had a tear of the medial meniscus. The employee was disabled effective November 3, 2022, and underwent surgery for her left knee. She returned to work on November 17, 2022.
Ms. Mahoney was paid a total of 2 weeks of lost time benefits totaling $2,924.50.
Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this Pro-Se case can be settled for $25,748.92, representing approximately 12% loss of use of the left leg. This settlement will close out any future lost time benefits associated with this injury.
The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.
