RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF NOVEMBER 17, 2022

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing Joseph Podlasek

Body

 

WHEREAS, Joseph Podlasek is the founder and former Chief Executive Officer of Trickster Cultural Center located in Schaumburg, Illinois; and

 

WHEREAS, established on March 5, 2005, the Trickster Cultural Center was created to provide a Native American perspective on art, education, and awareness.  The Trickster Cultural Center is the only art institution in the State of Illinois that is owned and operated by Native Americans; and

 

WHEREAS, in addition to the art exhibited, the Trickster Cultural Center also sponsors cultural discussions, tours, and workshops geared toward supplementing its multicultural appreciation approach; and

 

WHEREAS, the Trickster Cultural Center is a nonprofit organization that also services the needs of Native American veterans.  Native American veterans participate in the many activities offered at the Trickster Cultural Center including providing artwork for purchase at the gift shop; and

 

WHEREAS, the word “trickster” in Native American culture represents a spiritual and cultural educator.  In using this word in its name, the Trickster Cultural Center seeks to invoke thought, cultural sharing, and interaction; and

 

WHEREAS, prior to creating the Trickster Cultural Center, Mr. Podlasek was the Executive Director of the American Indian Center of Chicago and a Technical Engineer for the Chicago History Museum; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize Joseph Podlasek for the work that he has done on behalf of Native Americans to encourage multicultural awareness and appreciation; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Joseph Podlasek.
