TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF FEBRUARY 21, 2008

COMMITTEE ON FINANCE

Mr. Richard Lanyon, General Superintendent

Title

Authority to add Project 07-364-2M, Primary Odor Control Equipment Installation at O’Hare TARP DS-5 to the Engineering Department Capital Improvements Program and to the Construction Fund, estimated cost of the project is $1,000,000.00

Body

Dear Sir:

Authority is requested to add Project 07-364-2M, Primary Odor Control Equipment Installation at O’Hare TARP Drop Shaft (DS)-5 to the Engineering Department Capital Improvements Program and to the Construction Fund at the request of the Maintenance and Operations Department.

The purpose of the project is to reduce the hydrogen sulfide emanating from O’Hare TARP DS-5, which is surrounded by residential properties.  The large concentrations of hydrogen sulfide may produce odors.

The project consists of installing a biofilter in the vent line from DS-5. The discharge from the biofilter will be piped to the existing odor control equipment for further removal of hydrogen sulfide to an acceptable level. The existing odor control unit will be repaired for damage due to past flooding.

The estimated cost of the project is $1,000,000.00.

If further clarification is required, please advise the undersigned.

Requested, Joseph P. Sobanski, Chief Engineer, TEK:JW:CN:KS

Respectfully Submitted, Gloria Alitto Majewski, Chairman Committee on Finance

ORDERED passed by affirmative roll call vote of a majority of the Commissioners present this February 21, 2008.  Approved, President Terrence J. O’Brien
