RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing National Police Week
Body
WHEREAS, Peace Officers Memorial Day is recognized on May 15th and the week in which it falls is recognized as National Police Week, May 12th through 18th, to honor and pay tribute to law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty; and
WHEREAS, there are more than 800,000 law enforcement officers serving in communities across the United States, including the dedicated members of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) Police; and
WHEREAS, National Police Week serves as a time to recognize the valor, dedication, and sacrifices made by law enforcement officers in protecting and serving our communities; and
WHEREAS, the MWRD acknowledges the critical role law enforcement officers, including the MWRD Police, play in ensuring public safety and upholding the rule of law; and
WHEREAS, National Police Week provides an opportunity for communities to come together to express gratitude for the bravery and commitment of law enforcement officers and to honor the memories of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice; and
WHEREAS, the service and sacrifice of all officers killed in the line of duty has been honored with this recognition since it was enacted by Congress in 1961 and signed into law by President John F. Kennedy in 1962; and
WHEREAS, during National Police Week and throughout the year, the MWRD reaffirms its commitment to supporting law enforcement agencies and collaborating with them to ensure the safety and security of our residents and our water infrastructure; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize National Police Week; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
