TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF JUNE 5, 2008
COMMITTEE ON ENGINEERING
Mr. Richard Lanyon, General Superintendent
Title
Authority to authorize payment to International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 17 as monetary consideration for an easement grant in connection with the 39th Street Conduit Rehabilitation Phase I Bypass Tunnel, in an amount not to exceed $40,000.00 (ROW File No. 16, Contract 01-103-2S), Account 401-50000-667340
Body
Dear Sir:
In connection with the captioned project, it is necessary to acquire permanent and temporary easements from International Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 17 for the construction, operation, and maintenance of a drop shaft and connecting structure. The easements authorize the District to construct a drop shaft and connecting structure on property owned by International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 17 northwest of the intersection of Racine Avenue and Pershing Road in the City of Chicago.
The consideration for granting the easement to the District is $40,000.00, which has been verified by comparison to a fair market value appraisal of the easement premises performed by “T” Engineering Services, Ltd.
Funds are available in Account 401-50000-667340, Capital Improvements Bond Fund. It is respectfully requested that the General Superintendent recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it accept and approve the easement grant from International Association of Heat and Frost Insulators and Asbestos Workers Local 17 to the District in connection with the captioned project and that it approve payment in the amount of $40,000.00, by direct voucher, as consideration for the granting of the aforementioned permanent and temporary easements.
It is further respectfully requested that the General Superintendent recommend to the Board of Commissioners that the Chairman of the Committee on Finance and the Clerk be authorized and directed to execute any necessary documents in connection with the subject easement grant on behalf of the District after they are approved by the Chief Engineer as to technical matters and by the Attorney as to form and legality.
If further clarification is required, please advise the undersigned.
Requested, Joseph P. Sobanski, Chief Engineer, NV:AP:JMS:CWJ
