Mr. John P. Murray, Acting Executive Director

Title

Authority to settle the Workers’ Compensation Claim of Carlos Castro vs. MWRDGC, Claim number 24WC023708 Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC), in the sum of $39,222.00, Account 901-30000-601090

Body

Dear Sir:

Carlos Castro is a Maintenance Laborer A working at the O’Brien Water Reclamation Plant. On July 25, 2024, he reported that he was cutting grass, weed whacking and lifting trailer gates in Northbrook at the Walters Pumping Station and hurt his lower back. He sought treatment at the Industrial Clinic on July 26, 2024, where he was diagnosed with a lumbar strain.

He was treated conservatively with physical therapy. Mr. Castro continued to have pain. He had an MRI in September 2024, which showed a mild disc bulge. He was treated with medication and physical therapy.

Mr. Castro had no lost time benefits paid.

Mr. Castro filed an Application of Adjustment of Claim with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) through his counsel. Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this case can be settled for $39,222.00 representing approximately 7.5% loss of use of person as a whole. This settlement will close out any future lost time and medical benefits associated with this injury.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and he be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Thaddeus J. Kosowski, Director of Human Resources, TJK:BLW:DMG
