RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 14, 2017

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing the Moravian Day Festival
Body
WHEREAS, the 78th Annual Moravian Day Festival will take place September 24th at the Lithuanian World Center in Lemont; and
WHEREAS, the Moravian Day Festival focuses on the spirit, beauty and talents of the Czech, Slovak and Moravian regions; and
WHEREAS, the first Moravian Day Festival (“Festival”) was held on September 24, 1939 in Pilsen Park in Chicago where a parade showcasing Moravian costumes, bands, floats and horses was enjoyed by thousands of bystanders; and
WHEREAS, the tradition continued annually as a gathering of all Moravian, Czech and Slovak people from the metropolitan Chicago area, as well as the many others who travel each year from all parts of the United States, Canada and the Czech and Slovak Republics to join in the celebration of their heritage; and
WHEREAS, traditional music, dancing and food are enjoyed at the Festival, as well as arts and crafts from the Czech and Slovak Republics; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the Festival is to preserve traditions and show future generations the music, dancing and culture of their ancestors; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, hereby recognize the 78th Annual Moravian Day Festival; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
