Authority to grant Northern Illinois Gas Company, d/b/a Nicor Gas Company, a 25-year, approximately 10’ x 845’ non-exclusive easement to continue to install, operate, maintain, repair, rehabilitate and remove a 16-inch natural gas main located on District real estate south of Oakton Street and west of McCormick Boulevard, traversing North Shore Channel Parcels 6.12 and 6.19, in Skokie, Illinois. Consideration shall be an initial annual fee of $12,810.00

Dear Sir:

 

Since 1974, Northern Illinois Gas Company, d/b/a Nicor Gas Company (“Nicor”), has installed, operated and maintained a 16-inch diameter natural gas main under and through an approximately 10’ x 845’ strip of land south of Oakton Street and traversing North Shore Channel Parcels 6.12 and 6.19 in Skokie, Illinois, under an easement agreement. The current easement, as extended, expires October 1, 2024. The current annual easement fee is $6,413.79.

 

Nicor has requested a new 25-year, non-exclusive easement to continue to install, operate, maintain, repair, rehabilitate and remove the natural gas main. North Shore Channel Parcels 6.12 and 6.19 are occupied by the Skokie Park District for public recreational use under a lease that commenced April 21, 1994, and expires April 20, 2032. The Park District has no objection to the renewal of Nicor’s easement.

 

The District’s technical departments have reviewed Nicor’s request and have no objections thereto. An initial annual easement fee of $12,810.00 is recommended. That amount represents 10% of the pro-rata share of the easement premises’ fair market value, based on a recent appraisal of a nearby comparable site.

 

It is requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize the District to grant Northern Illinois Gas Company, d/b/a Nicor Gas Company, a 25-year, approximately 10’ x 845’ non-exclusive easement to continue to install, operate, maintain, repair, rehabilitate and remove a 16-inch natural gas main located on District real estate south of Oakton Street and west of McCormick Boulevard, traversing North Shore Channel Parcels 6.12 and 6.19, in Skokie, Illinois. Consideration shall be an initial annual fee of $12,810.00.

 

It is further requested that the Executive Director recommend to the Board of Commissioners that it authorize and direct the Chairman of the Committee on Finance and the Clerk to execute said easement agreement after it is approved by the General Counsel as to form and legality.
