MEMORIAL RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF FEBRUARY 21, 2008

MEMORIAL RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners extending sympathy and condolences to the family of Roberta Calyen

Body

 

WHEREAS, Roberta Calyen was called to eternal rest on February 12, 2008; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Calyen was born in Lexington, Mississippi on June 5, 1926 to Henry Smith and Clara Raleigh; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Calyen moved to Chicago in 1946, met and married Richard C. Calyen in 1947 and was the proud mother of five children; and                     

 

WHEREAS, as an adult, Mrs. Calyen was an active and devout member of the Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church and, later, the Christian Valley Baptist Church; and

 

WHEREAS,  Mrs. Calyen, lovingly known as “Madea” and “Aunt Tootsie, who enjoyed gardening and socializing with neighbors and friends on her front porch; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Calyen was the matriarch of the Calyen family; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Calyen came from a close-knit family, leaving behind her brother, Sam Smith and her children, Alberta Frencher,  Clementine Gilbert (Melvin), and Anthony Calyen, fourteen beloved grandchildren and thirteen beloved great-grand children; and

 

WHEREAS, Mrs. Calyen was preceded in death by three sisters, Clara, Azalee and Annie, two brothers, “G” and Buddy, two children, Shirley Deer and Ricky Calyen, and one grandson, Richard Darnell Calyen; and

 

WHEREAS,  countless people mourn the passing of this wonderful woman who lived her life as a child of God and instilled in her family a legacy of love and dedication,

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, extend our sympathy and condolences to the family of Roberta Calyen, and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT THIS Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, and that a copy of same suitably engrossed, be presented to the family of Roberta Calyen.
