RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF DECEMBER 1, 2022

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing the Homewood Science Center

Body

 

WHEREAS, founded in 2016, the Homewood Science Center is a nonprofit community science center that serves residents of Chicago’s south suburbs; and

 

WHEREAS, the mission of the Homewood Science Center is to provide programs for children from economically and culturally diverse communities to ensure that they have exposure to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM); and

 

WHEREAS, the Homewood Science Center partners with numerous organizations, teachers, and STEM professionals to encourage confidence and skill development in youth; and

 

WHEREAS, the Homewood Science Center offers numerous services and activities, including but not limited to, afterschool programs, youth internships, volunteer opportunities, camps, community makerspace, robotics teams, and a native pollinator garden; and

 

WHEREAS, the Homewood Science Center works diligently to close the gap for female, minority, and low-income students in the STEM fields by focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize the Homewood Science Center; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to the Homewood Science Center.
