RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF OCTOBER 15, 2009

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners congratulating Black Contractors United in recognition of its 28th Annual Award Gala to be held on October 29, 2009

Body

 

WHEREAS, Black Contractors United (“BCU”) is organized to expand the base of African American construction and construction-related businesses; and

 

WHEREAS, BCU will hold its 28th Annual Award Gala on October 29, 2009, at the Intercontinental Chicago Hotel; and

 

WHEREAS, this celebration is an annual event where the Honorable Harold Washington was the keynote speaker at the first annual event and the Honorable Richard M. Daley is the keynote speaker for this year’s annual event; and

 

WHEREAS, Black Contractors United strives to help African American firms reach higher levels of growth, development and profitability through focused assistance; and 

 

WHEREAS, BCU has helped to pave the way for unprecedented African American participation in massive retail, residential/high rise and public works construction projects; and

 

WHEREAS, Black Contractors United has provided valuable assistance to bidders as Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago contractors seeking minority participation; and

 

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago has been a pioneer in recognizing the contributions of African American contractors; and  

 

WHEREAS, this recognition is evinced by the District’s early adoption and continuing advocacy of policies which support minority businesses within its jurisdiction; and

 

WHEREAS, the expansion of the African American construction base is in the best interest of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, the City of Chicago, the State of Illinois and the United States of America.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby join with Black Contractors United in recognizing its 28th Annual Award Gala; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Black Contractors United.
