RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF NOVEMBER 7, 2024

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing October as Hindu Heritage Month
Body
WHEREAS, since approximately 2013, October has been recognized as Hindu Heritage Month. Hindu Heritage Month is currently celebrated in numerous locations throughout the United States and Canada; and
WHEREAS, Hinduism is the third largest world religion, with customs and traditions dating back 4,000 years. Worldwide, there are more than 1 billion followers of the Hindu religion, with an estimated 94% of Hindus residing in India; and
WHEREAS, October was selected as the month for celebration for Hindu Heritage Month because there are multiple Hindu holidays that take place including Navaratri and Diwali, as well as the remembrance of the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi; and
WHEREAS, Hindu Heritage Month is dedicated to encouraging awareness, tolerance, and acknowledgment of the contributions of the Hindu community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize October as Hindu Heritage Month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
