Mr. Brian A. Perkovich, Executive Director

Title

Authority to settle the Workers’ Compensation Claim of Marek Bielecki vs. MWRDGC, Claim number 19 WC 06705, Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC), in the sum of $66,665.48, Account 901-30000-601090

Body

Dear Sir:

Marek Bielecki is an Electrical Mechanic at the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant. On December 22, 2016, he sustained an injury to his right knee while carrying a ladder down some stairs. He did not initially seek medical treatment and instead took over the counter pain medications, and applied ice and cream to his knee. He initially sought treatment at the industrial clinic on January 10, 2017. He was prescribed medication and physical therapy. The employee failed to improve and went to see a specialist. On March 30, 2017, Mr. Bielecki underwent a procedure on his right leg and was disabled from work at that time. He underwent a course of physical therapy following his surgery. He was able to return to work on July 6, 2017.

Mr. Bielecki continued to experience problems with his right knee and was disabled from work again effective February 19, 2018. He underwent a second procedure on his right leg on February 20, 2018. Following this surgery, he underwent a course of physical therapy. He returned to work again on May 21, 2018.

Mr. Bielecki was paid a total of 27 weeks in lost time benefits totaling $32,935.21.

Mr. Bielecki filed an Application of Adjustment of Claim with the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission (IWCC) through his counsel. Subject to the approval of the IWCC, this case can now be settled for a total of $66,665.48, representing approximately 40% loss of use of the right leg. This settlement will close out future lost time and medical benefits associated with this injury.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment of that sum be approved and she be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Beverly K. Sanders, Director of Human Resources, BKS:RAJ:RG
