TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF FEBRUARY 18, 2021

COMMITTEE ON JUDICIARY

Mr. Brian A. Perkovich, Executive Director

Title

Authority to settle the Bodily Injury Claim of Tarina Riley # AP 1488, in the sum of $15,000.00, arising from a January 9, 2020 vehicle accident, Account 901-30000-667220

Body

Dear Sir:

On January 9, 2020, Ms. Riley was driving a vehicle travelling westbound on I-290 (Eisenhower Expressway) when her vehicle was struck from behind by a District owned vehicle. As a result of the accident, Ms. Riley reported sustaining injuries to her lumbar and cervical area. She sought treatment the same day as the accident in the emergency room of Adventist Bolingbrook Hospital.

Ms. Riley sought chiropractic treatment for her lumbar and cervical injuries on January 10, 2020 and was eventually released from medical care on March 14, 2020.

Ms. Riley retained an attorney to represent her and a lawsuit was filed against the District. A tentative agreement was reached to resolve this claim, following negotiations with her attorney, for a total of $15,000.00.

The Director of Human Resources believes this settlement is in the best interest of the District and requests payment in the amount of $15,000.00 be approved and she be authorized to execute such documents as may be necessary to effect the settlement.

Requested, Beverly K. Sanders, Director of Human Resources, BKS:RAJ:RG
