RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF MAY 20, 2021

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners acknowledging Sotiris Rekoumis

WHEREAS, Sotiris Rekoumis was born in 1937 in Oria, Arkadias, Greece. As a young child, he attended school in Greece. In 1954, Mr. Rekoumis graduated from the High School of Astros in Kynouria, Greece. From 1944 through 1961, he attended the University of Athens where he earned a degree in history with a concentration on archaeology. Following graduation, Mr. Rekoumis enlisted in the Greek army, where he attained the rank of second lieutenant; and
WHEREAS, in 1965, Mr. Rekoumis was hired as a teacher at Goura High School. Additionally in 1965, he enrolled in the master's program at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. In 1967, upon his graduation, Mr. Rekoumis was hired as a teacher at Koraes Elementary School at the Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Palos, Hills, Illinois. From 1970 until 2000, he was employed with the Chicago Public Schools as a high school history teacher; and
WHEREAS, in 1977, Mr. Rekoumis earned another master’s degree, this time in special education, from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago; and
WHEREAS, in 1985, Mr. Rekoumis started Chicago Greek Hours, a Greek radio broadcast station, where he currently serves as the President. In 1989, he created Omogenia, a Greek newspaper with circulation in the Chicagoland area, where he currently serves as the head editor; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby acknowledge Sotiris Rekoumis; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Sotiris Rekoumis.
