TRANSMITTAL LETTER FOR BOARD MEETING OF MARCH 2, 2023

COMMITTEE ON STORMWATER MANAGEMENT

Mr. Brian A. Perkovich, Executive Director

Title

Authority to negotiate intergovernmental agreements for the acquisition of flood prone properties in Flossmoor, Midlothian and Northlake

Body

Dear Sir:

The Engineering Department recently invited each municipality and township within the District’s Corporate limits to submit applications for potential flood-prone property acquisition projects. Three applications were submitted and all three meet the requirements of the District’s Flood-Prone Acquisition policy under the Local Government Application Program adopted by the Board of Commissioners on August 7, 2014.

The three projects consist of four (4) flood-prone properties in the municipalities of Flossmoor, Midlothian and Northlake. Attached is an exhibit illustrating the project locations.

Based on the foregoing, it is requested that the Board of Commissioners grant authority for the District to negotiate Intergovernmental Agreements (IGAs) with the municipalities Flossmoor, Midlothian and Northlake for the acquisition of flood-prone properties. If the parties agree in principle, authority to enter the IGAs will be sought from the District’s Board of Commissioners.

Requested, Catherine A. O’Connor, Director of Engineering, KMF:JK

Recommended, Brian A. Perkovich, Executive Director

Disposition of this agenda item will be documented in the official Regular Board Meeting Minutes of the Board of Commissioners for March 2, 2023
