RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF JULY 11, 2024

Title

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners recognizing the 10th anniversary of the Pat Mac Ride

Body

WHEREAS, Patrick Thomas McNamara was a vivacious child that loved life.  Diagnosed with an ependymoma (a benign brain tumor) at the age of two, Patrick remained a strong and courageous young man that never lost his spirit.  In October of 2011, after eleven years of grueling surgeries and experimental treatments, Patrick passed away at the age of thirteen; and

WHEREAS, following Patrick’s diagnosis in 2000, Pat Mac’s Pack was formed.  Comprised of family, friends, neighbors, and classmates, Pat Mac’s Pack rallied behind the McNamara family in its mission to raise funding for pediatric brain cancer research; and

WHEREAS, officially incorporated in 2014, Pat Mac’s Pack continues to participate in various fundraising events to raise contributions to support pediatric brain tumor research and provide assistance to pediatric brain tumor patients and their families; and

WHEREAS, one of the most popular fundraising events sponsored by Pat Mac’s Pack is the Pat Mac Ride.  Introduced in 2014 by a group of cyclists from Saint Barnabas School (where Patrick had been a student), this annual tradition continues to positively impact the lives of children suffering from pediatric brain cancer; and

WHEREAS, on Friday, June 21, 2024, the Pac Mac Ride celebrated its 10th anniversary.  The 100k bike ride commenced at Saint Barnabas School in Chicago and concluded at Notre Dame Parish in Michigan City, Indiana.  The event raised $427,975.08, far exceeding the 2024 goal of $304,000; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago honors the Pat Mac Pack for its dedication to pediatric brain cancer and extends a heartfelt congratulatory salute to the Pat Mac Ride on its continued success; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize the 10th anniversary of the Pat Mac Ride; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
