Report on the Settlement of Workers’ Compensation Claims and Miscellaneous Claims under $10,000.00

Dear Sir:
The following matters were settled upon the recommendations of the Director of Human Resources and the General Counsel, with the approval of the Executive Director:
1. Settlement of Workers’ Compensation Claim of Colleen Condon, Claim Case No. 20WC26590, in the amount of $9,900.00.
Collen Condon, a Police Lieutenant at the Stickney Plant, alleged a March 30, 2020 work related injury after she reported contracting COVID-19 from coworkers. Ms. Condon was off of work beginning April 1, 2020 and returned May 5, 2020. Ms. Condon was not paid any lost time benefits. Settlement in the amount of $9,900.00 represents 2.36% loss of person as a whole. This settlement will close out any future lost time benefits as well as any future medical benefits.
2. Settlement of Workers’ Compensation Claim of Oscar Williams, Claim Case No. 23WC11308, in the amount of $3,750.00.
Oscar Williams, an Operating Engineer I at the Stickney Plant, alleged an April 27, 2023 work related injury when he slipped into an open area and injured his right leg, while removing a sheet of plywood from the floor. Mr. Williams sought treatment at Advocate Trinity Hospital. Mr. Williams was off of work beginning April 30, 2023 and returned May 6, 2023. Mr. Williams was paid $294.62 in lost time benefits. Settlement in the amount of $3,750.00 represents 1.74% loss of the right leg. This settlement will close out any future lost time benefits as well as any future medical benefits.
3. Settlement of Auto Liability Claim of Sydney Gill, Claim No: A/P 1553, in the amount of $2,380.55.
While parked near 5300 S. Shore Drive in Chicago, IL on July 12, 2024, Ms. Gill’s personal vehicle was allegedly struck and damaged on the front bumper by a District owned vehicle. This settlement satisfies the total damages sought to repair Ms. Gill’s vehicle and to cover rental car expenses.
4. Settlement of Better Government Association v. MWRD, Case No. 24 CH 5603, in the amount of $9,000.00.
The Better Government Association (BGA) filed this lawsuit involving a Freedom of Information Act request for Stormwater Master Plans the District withheld on the grounds of deliberation. While the parties cross-motions for summary judgment were pending, the District agreed to provide BGA the Plans and said payment in exchange for dismissal of the lawsuit.
