COMMITTEE ON MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS

Mr. John P. Murray, Acting Executive Director

Title

Declaration of an emergency affecting public health and safety and ratification of Emergency Contract 25-800-01, Emergency Work to Rehabilitate the Calumet WRP Digester Facility Main Switchgear to Jamerson & Bauwens Electrical Contractors, Inc., in an amount not to exceed $500,000.00, Account 201-50000-645750, Requisition 1638636

Body

Dear Sir:

The electrical distribution equipment in the East Digester Building at the Calumet WRP has recently experienced two fires damaging several circuit breakers in the main switchgear. Power to the Digester facility has been restored, but at a limited capacity. The electrical equipment needs to be rehabilitated as quickly as possible to return to its appropriate operating configuration.

In accordance with Section 11.5 of the Purchasing Act, the Board of Commissioners was polled, and tentatively declared an emergency affecting public health and safety. To rehabilitate the switchgear as quickly as possible, it is requested that the Board of Commissioners ratify the agreement with Jamerson & Bauwens Electrical Contractors, Inc., in an amount of $500,000.00.

In consideration of the above, and in accordance with Section 11.5 of the District’s Purchasing Act, 70 ILCS 2605/11.5, it is requested that the Board of Commissioners formally declare an emergency affecting public health and safety to rehabilitate the switchgear.

It is also requested that the Board of Commissioners fix the date on which the emergency is to terminate as August 1, 2025. A full report of the resolution of the emergency will be presented to the Board of Commissioners at a future meeting.

Funds are available in Account 201-50000-645750.

Requested, Edward J. Staudacher, Acting Director of Maintenance and Operations, JS:JR
