RESOLUTION FOR BOARD MEETING OF NOVEMBER 6, 2025

RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners honoring Greencorps Chicago for providing valuable paid job training for individuals with barriers to employment
Body
WHEREAS, Greencorps Chicago is the City of Chicago’s green-industry job training program in tree care, ecological restoration, landscaping, and green infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, Greencorps Chicago provides an opportunity for unemployed and underemployed individuals to gain technical skills and professional development. Participants receive classroom training in horticulture, carpentry, pesticide use, and other topics, as well as hands-on experience in careers like landscaping, arboriculture, and brownfield remediation; and
WHEREAS, Greencorps Chicago has actively supported communities and the residents through job training, community gardening, summer programming for CPS youth, and weatherization of homes. During the program, participants are supported with a stable income and social services, leading to low attrition rates and allowing program graduates to secure full-time employment; and
WHEREAS, Greencorps Chicago has graduated over 750 trainees from the program since 1994, and recently Greencorps participated in the Water Environment Federation’s Community Service Project, where volunteers, including District staff, built a rain garden at Aldridge Elementary School, near the District’s Calumet Water Reclamation Plant; and
WHEREAS, Greencorps Chicago is proud of its legacy and looks forward to continued service to the Chicagoland region, especially residents in historically disinvested communities; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and staff, do hereby honor Greencorps Chicago for providing job training to individuals with barriers to employment; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago and that a copy of same, suitably engrossed, be presented to Greencorps Chicago.
