RESOLUTION sponsored by the Board of Commissioners celebrating the 250th birthday of the United States of America
Body
WHEREAS, on July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, providing an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create; and
WHEREAS, as part of the celebration, the District will launch a micro-forest initiative with the planting of 250 native oak saplings in honor of America’s 250th birthday, reflecting the District’s commitment to environmental stewardship, native habitat restoration, and climate resilience; and
WHEREAS, the District will commemorate this milestone with a kickoff event on July 2, 2026, at the Calumet Water Reclamation Plant to highlight our ongoing efforts to enhance biodiversity, reduce stormwater impacts, and support healthy ecosystems through programs such as “Restore the Canopy, Plant a Tree;” and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we, the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, on behalf of ourselves and our staff, do hereby recognize and celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this Resolution be spread upon the permanent Record of Proceedings of the Board of Commissioners of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
